How to Sell to Albertsons – Transcript!

Hey there! I’m Karen Waksman, the founder of Retail MBA. Today I wanted to dive into a discussion about Albertsons Grocery Store. The reason behind creating this training session is because many of you have food products and are eager to see them on grocery store shelves. I understand the need for tips and strategies especially if you’re just starting out.

Now let me share some insights with you based on my years of experience in selling millions of products to chains and helping numerous clients break into major retailers worldwide. Its truly fulfilling for me to support your dreams of entering the industry. So without ado lets focus on Albertsons.

Here’s an intriguing fact

The Albertsons corporation actually owns a 19 brands! Now why does this matter to you as a food product owner? Well it matters quite a bit. You see, aside from Albertson’s itself they also own chains, like Vons, Safeway, Amigos and many more.

If you’re new to the industry here’s something you may not be aware of; when a retailer approves your product they assign you a vendor number. This number serves as your identification within their system. It’s a step that we all desire right?

Now imagine this scenario; if a retail chain owns chains they all share the same vendor number. Neat isn’t it? So lets say you manage to get a “yes” from Albertson’s. They would then provide you with a vendor number.

And heres where it gets exciting – armed with that vendor number you can pursue opportunities with retailers under the corporate brand like Safeway or Vons. You could approach them. Say confidently “Guess what? I already have a vendor number! Lets start with a test.” This matters because these buyers are incredibly busy and often avoid taking on products due, to paperwork involved.

Streamlining the Process

By streamlining the process and having that vendor number in hand early on you increase your chances of success in reaching more retailers efficiently.

To help someone become a vendor it’s pretty cool to reach out and let them know that you already have a vendor number so you can start away. Lets move forward today and make things happen.

Retailers find it really interesting when you approach them with the opportunity to have your products, in their stores especially if you target chains like Albertsons. It doesn’t always work out. Its definitely a strategy considering. Before diving into that though I want to share some insights with you through a three to four minute video.
