Learn How to Sell a Product to the Military

Discover everything you need to know about selling to the military.

Having said that lets discuss selling into the niche market of the military!

Now I’m not referring to selling firearms or military apparel. I’m talking about offering your gift items, food products or any other merchandise that you want to sell through these outlets within the military.

Why it’s advantageous for you to sell to the military.

Allow me to explain this with an example. Lets consider an organization called AAFES, which stands for Army and Air Force Exchange Service. AAFES is essentially a military operated organization. Here’s how it works; when a member of the military gets deployed to locations AAFES sets up stores and outlets in these diverse locations, across the United States or even worldwide.

This means not can troops purchase items they require but also enables support, for their families and fellow servicemen/women.
You can sell a variety of products to AAFES stores, including items, for bookstores, gas stations, gift stores and department stores. These retail locations are spread across areas providing opportunities to make money in the military industry. The military constantly seeks products for their locations making it a lucrative market segment to target.

Becoming a vendor offers advantages.

The military operates outlets nationwide and globally giving them purchasing power. Selling to the military is akin to selling to chains since the aim is to supply products in high volumes.

Once you establish relationships with retailers it becomes more feasible to sell your products to the military well. Selling through stores presents an opportunity worth exploring. AAFES is one example of an outlet; additionally the Navy has its own organization, with similar prospects.
Selling to these guys is quite similar, to selling to chain stores and other retail outlets. In my Retail MBA program I teach about approaching, pitching and selling to buyers including those in the military market.

When it comes to selling to the military there are some nuances that need consideration.

Now here’s the part; there are avenues for generating revenue. One of these opportunities lies in tapping into the market. If you’re curious about AAFES you can visit aafes.com—it’s truly fascinating. They have an array of stores and significant financial resources. I believe they rank as one of the retailers globally or at least in the United States.
