Poeple always ask me “Karen, how do I get my products in the Sam’s Club? I have this great product and I’d loved it to get in the Sam’s Club. I’m just wondering if you have any quick tips or suggestions for me to become a Sam’s Club vendor”.
Why you should be selling to Sam’s Club
Let’s talk about how to sell to Sam’s Club. If you will go to a Sam’s Club, you’ll notice their packaging is stronger and they use tougher plastic. The reason for that is because they are a warehouse retailer, they’re dealing with volumes of products, they are very concerned with the packaging not getting squashed in transit and they are selling by the palettes.
What you need to know as a Sam’s Club vendor
Basically that means you must create all new packaging in order to work with Sam’s Club. If you have a great product and you’ve already created a packaging, the type of packaging you need for Sam’s Club is very different compared to other retailers.
It’s a little tricky to become a Sam’s Club vendor
Something to consider is its an extra expense to build that into your process as it takes time. But Sam’s Club is owned by Walmart, that’s pretty amazing. Another thing to consider is that Sam’s Club have huge locations, they tend to buy by the palette which is different than other retailers and that if you work with another chain store, they can buy small volume, they test it out to see if the product sells and then if it works they’ll buy lots of bondage from you. But with Sam’s Club, they typically buy one palette with some samples.
If you become a Sam’s Club vendor it is a tremendous opportunity for your business
Essentially, you’ll see when you go to the stores is that it’s the real deal so you’re going to need to be able to handle their volume. If you’re a small guy and you haven’t figure out your distribution, your manufacturing and how to sell in volume, Sam’s Club might not be the first choice for you. But if you are ready for that it can be very magical for you to get an order from Sam’s Club.
