Selling to Save A Lot: Tips for Getting Your Product on Shelves

Save A Lot may not be the first grocery chain that comes to mind when thinking about selling your consumer product, but it should not be overlooked. Save A Lot has positioned itself as the country’s largest discount grocer, selling heavily discounted grocery products across its over 900 independently owned stores in 32 states. As a retailer with independently owned stores, this presents a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to generate revenue by selling their products directly to the individual store owners. In this article, we will discuss some quick tips on how to sell your product to Save A Lot.

  1. Start with Independently Owned Stores Save A Lot has both corporate-owned stores and independently owned stores. The independently owned stores offer the most significant opportunity for entrepreneurs to get their products on shelves. These store owners have the authority to make buying decisions for their individual stores, making it easier to approach them directly and negotiate a deal. This allows entrepreneurs to sell their products one by one and open up accounts with each store. It is essential to do your research to find out which stores are independently owned in your area and start there.

  2. Focus on Discounted Products Save A Lot is known for selling heavily discounted grocery products. As a result, entrepreneurs must have a very discounted product to sell to them. This means you need to price your product at a lower rate than your competitors to make it an attractive option for Save A Lot. It is crucial to understand the value proposition of your product and how it fits in with Save A Lot’s business model.

  3. Have a Plan for Distribution Save A Lot has a robust system for distribution, and it is crucial to have a plan in place for getting your product to their stores. Entrepreneurs will need to work with distributors of Save A Lot’s choice to ensure their products are delivered to individual stores. This will result in additional costs for entrepreneurs, which means they may need to sell their products at a deep discount to make it worth their while.

  4. Pitch Your Product to Independently Owned Store Owners When approaching independently owned store owners, it is essential to have a clear and concise pitch. Store owners are busy individuals, and they do not have time to listen to a long and drawn-out pitch. It is crucial to have a plan and pitch your product’s value proposition in a concise manner. Entrepreneurs must also be prepared to negotiate a deal with store owners, which may require offering a deeper discount or other incentives.
