Karen Waksman of Retail MBA recently interviewed Zach Benson, an IG expert with over 220 Million Followers, to discuss the best strategies for growing an Instagram following. Benson shared three key tips for success on the platform: using the right hashtags, joining engagement groups, and creating direct message groups.

Benson suggests using hashtags to make content searchable and to get it seen by the right people. He recommends using a mix of hashtags with different numbers of posts, from 25,000 to 1 million. This will increase the chances of a post appearing in the top nine posts for a keyword.

Engagement groups are a great way to get content seen without spending money. Benson suggests creating a direct message group with 15 people, and then dropping the link to the post into the group. This will increase the chances of the post appearing on the home page or explore page, which can lead to thousands of followers.

Benson also recommends reaching out to accounts in the same niche and offering to pay them to get into their engagement groups. He suggests offering $5 for each group they get you into. Alternatively, he suggests creating your own group with 10,000 followers or more by reaching out to accounts in the same niche.

By following Zach Benson’s advice, Instagram users can increase their followers and engagement without spending a lot of money. Using the right hashtags, joining engagement groups, and creating direct message groups are all great strategies for growing an Instagram following.
